What's Bridging the Gap 64 All About?

Bridging the Gap is a 64-hour professional development program that prepares bilingual individuals to work as medical interpreters. It is used to train novice and experienced medical interpreters, and it is accepted by both accredited national certifying bodies, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI).

No prior interpreting experience? No problem!

Bilingual individuals can use medical interpreting as a reliable remote career path. Our training prepares you to join a growing field where you can make a difference without ever leaving your home.

Requirements

  • Age: 18 or older.

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent—whether earned in the U.S. or abroad.

  • Attendance: You'll need to attend all 64 hours of the training to officially complete the program.

  • Language Skills: Show proof of conversational fluency in English and another language. (Don’t fret—we’ll guide you through the Language Proficiency Assessments as part of the enrollment process!)

 

If you don’t have proof of language proficiency, you will need to take an over-the-phone language assessment. The assessment is scored on a scale of 1-12, and a 9 or higher is required as admission into this course. The language assessment costs $70-$90, based on the language.

 

Once the language proficiency requirements have been met, we will send you an invoice via email for the course payment. If you are unable to attend the training, your course payment can be used for a different class with TOLC within one year.
